You may be wondering about the hardwood versions and if solid hardwood flooring is right for you. After all, these floors have an allure that is not denied.

Here is a list of questions you should ask yourself to determine if this is the ideal version for you.

Where are you installing it?

Specifically, is the room wet or leak-prone? This is probably the most critical question you should ask yourself because solid wood flooring can be damaged by excess water.

If it's a wet room like the kitchen or bath, it's not recommended for installation. Also, let the flooring professional know if you have extra durability needs.

You will need a hardwood flooring species that is ultra-hard. Hard species include oak, an exotic like teak or Brazilian cherry.

What's the state of the subfloor?

Generally, a plywood subfloor is preferred. However, cement can be damp, cold, and hard and will always require specific adjustments.

Do you have any time constraints when it comes to installation?

Solid hardwood flooring is installed with the traditional tongue and groove/nail down. Then, several coats of finish are applied.

This technique is more involved and can take several days. This is opposed to some other methods that take a half-day or so. If this is an issue, ask about the engineered version.

Do you want a floor able to be refinished over and over again?

While engineered and solid wood versions can be refinished, a solid-wood floor is thick enough to be refinished several times more. Please discuss this with the flooring professionals at our hardwood flooring company.
